The towns of Alcantarilha and São Bartolomeu de Messines, in the municipality of Silves, already have Urban Rehabilitation Areas (ARU).
«This delimitation translates, generically, into the definition of a set of tax benefits and financial support that the owners of buildings located within the ARU may benefit from, if they promote their urban rehabilitation», explains the City Council of Silves.
This instrument “is assumed as a mechanism to stimulate a change from the paradigm of new construction to that of urban regeneration and rehabilitation. It is intended, in this way, to enhance the urban space and its built heritage, while revitalizing the economic and social fabric», he adds.
The Municipality of Silves says that “it has been making an important effort to involve local actors, namely economic agents in the real estate sector, private entities and residents, promoting various work meetings and explanations of the scope and actions foreseen in these projects, with the objective of guaranteeing the implementation and success of the ARU in the towns of Alcantarilha and São Bartolomeu de Messines».
