Four lists are candidates for the first elections for the Algarve section of the Ordem dos Arquitetos (OA), whose elections will take place from the 17th to the 26th of June, together with the electoral acts for all the other organs and sections of the OA.
This is a historic electoral act, as new regional sections were recently created, namely the Algarve and Alentejo.
A List A, which at national level is headed by Daniel Fortuna do Couto, has in Luís Matos the candidate for president of the Algarve Section.
Architect at Monchique Town Hall, Luís Matos was the Order's delegate in the region for the last three years. The team includes professionals from various municipalities in Barlavento and Sotavento. The list has the motto “A Present Order”.
As for list B, it is headed, at national level, by Cláudia Costa Santos and its theme is “The Order is You”. In the Algarve, the candidate is Teresa Correia, former councilor of the Chamber of Faro, who, as a mayor, was responsible for urban planning, urban rehabilitation and infrastructure.
One of the ideas on this list is to "strengthen the role of the Order of Architects" so that it is "mandatory for the Order to participate in the processes of drawing up plans (PDM and PROTAL) and municipal regulations."
Moving to List C, has as a candidate for president of the Order, at national level, the architect Gonçalo Byrne, who was the author, for example, of Teatro das Figuras, in Faro. For the Algarve Regional Section of the Order, the candidate is Ricardo camacho.
Architect with professional practice in Portugal and the Middle East, he was a professor at the University of Kuwait and at Northeastern University, in Boston.
He is co-author of research projects between 2004 and 2014, namely “CasaGranturismo” in Silves, the academic program “Resilient Coastal Environments”, which took place between Algarve, Coimbra, Dalmatia and Massachusetts. “It just goes there with everyone” is the C-list slogan.
Finally, list D has Célia Gomes as a candidate for president of the Order. In the Algarve, the architect who heads the list competing with the Regional Section is Jose Pedro Nascimento.
In its presentation, list D, whose motto is “Arquitetura Perto”, says that “this is an application for rupture. A rupture with a way of thinking about architecture and its professional practice that persists in the Order of Architects and that looks at the current problems and potential of architecture with the eyes of the last century».
Electronic voting can be done between 12:00 on the 17th and 20:00 on the 26th of June. The in-person election will take place between 15:00 and 20:00 on the 26th.
