Lagos gives green light to contribution of 32 thousand euros to fight fires

For the constitution of the Special Provision for Combating Rural Fires

Last week, the Câmara de Lagos ratified the protocol for the constitution of DECIR 2020 – Special Device for Combating Rural Fires, a «special device, transversal to the entire district and dedicated exclusively to rural fires, operating between 15 May and October 15, 2020, the period most vulnerable to the occurrence of rural fires».

In addition to stipulating the financial contribution to be allocated by each of the Algarve's municipalities, which this year is around 32 euros, the protocol identifies "the different levels of operational commitment for which the Intervention Teams should be prepared", according to the Chamber of Lakes.

The most demanding period in terms of the allocation of resources, namely firefighting teams, number of firefighters, vehicles and logistical teams, runs from the 1st of July to the 30th of September (Level IV).

The agreement is established between the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), the Algarve Firefighters Federation (and respective Voluntary Firefighters Humanitarian Associations) and the sixteen Algarve municipalities, within the scope of AMAL -Comunidade Intermunicipal do Algarve.

«The objective of DECIR is to enable the region to respond adequately to this national goal, without compromising the efficiency in responding to other occurrences in the scope of protection and relief, which, according to the history in the period considered, increases exponentially in view of the seasonal increase of the population in the Algarve, as a tourist destination», added the municipality.
