The interdiction of disembarkation and land licenses for passengers and crew of cruise ships in national ports was again extended by the Government, until 23:59 on 15 July, according to an order published today.

Order No. 6756-A/2020, published in a supplement to the Diário da República to take effect from midnight on Wednesday, admits a new extension of the diploma "in light of the evolution of the epidemiological situation in Portugal".

The ban on disembarking passengers from cruise ships was imposed for the first time on 13 March and has been successively extended by the Government.

The executive, in the preamble of the order, recalls that this ban, and respective extensions, are justified as "a measure to contain possible lines of contagion, in order to control the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and Covid-19 disease" , since «the epidemiological situation, either in Portugal or in other countries, is not yet fully controlled».

He also says that the extension of the ban until mid-July takes into account that "international experience demonstrates the high risk arising from the disembarkation of passengers and crew from cruise ships".

As has been the case since March 13, the ban on cruise ships in national ports does not apply to national citizens or holders of residence permits in Portugal.

Cruise ships also continue to be authorized to dock at national ports for supply, maintenance and waiting (in layup) ship repair.

The extension of the ban also "does not affect the disembarkation in exceptional or urgent cases, upon authorization of the health authority, namely for humanitarian reasons, health or for immediate repatriation", stresses the executive in the diploma.
