Castro Marim accuses the Government of having "dual criteria" on the Praia Verde roundabout

Autarchy says that the decision "shows a deep disrespect for the Algarveans from Sotavento"

Castro Marim City Council sent a letter to the Government asking why Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) did not allow the Municipality to provisionally build a roundabout at the Praia Verde intersection, to later authorize the supermarket chain Aldi the creation of a roundabout, also on the EN125…«and a few hundred meters away».

The municipality questioned the Government, in a letter addressed to the Minister of Public Works, with the knowledge of the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister and the Ombudsman.

In a statement, the Municipality recalls how "it was a year ago" that "it saw the decision revoked by IP, after having already issued a favorable opinion on the roundabout at this intersection of Praia Verde and with all commitments fulfilled, with material purchased and with the contracting of the contract already carried out».

The inconsistency of the "turn-face", "now accentuated with the authorization by the IP of the ALDI roundabout in Altura", reveals, in the opinion of the municipality, "a duality of criteria" and creates "an unlikely situation for which the Municipality of Castro Marim demands an adequate justification».

“It also manifests a profound disrespect towards the Algarveans from the Sotavento, by continuing the car choke at this intersection, in the summer months, where every year there are several accidents”, he adds.

The Municipality of Castro Marim, moreover, says that "it continues to hold the central power responsible for any accidents that may occur in that dangerous intersection".
