Boat with 1,4 tons of hash caught in Guadiana

Vessel had 42 bales of hash inside

A boat, carrying around 1,4 tonnes of hashish, was intercepted during the early hours of Sunday, June 21, on the Guadiana River, near Foz de Odeleite.

This seizure took place during an operation by the GNR, in collaboration with its counterpart Guardia Civil (Spain), which aimed to combat international narcotics trafficking by sea.

In this context, in coordination with the Spanish authorities, a Detachment Vessel was activated, which intercepted the suspicious vessel along the Spanish bank, near the Portuguese town of Foz de Odeleite.

The semi-rigid vessel, with three high-powered engines, contained 42 bales of hash.

In the presence of the GNR, "the vessel's crew began to flee to the Spanish shore".

Then, the Guardia Civil carried out a series of steps, which culminated "in the arrest of two suspicious individuals and the seizure of a vehicle", says the GNR.

The boat and the drugs were also handed over to the Spanish authorities, as part of the investigation carried out by that security force.

This is second seizure of 1400 kilos of hash, in the Algarve, in the space of days.
