22 migrants who landed in Vale do Lobo go to court today

Men stayed overnight at GNR posts and PSP squadrons in the Algarve

The 22 migrants from North Africa, who were detected yesterday off Quarteira, in a small motor boat, and landed at Vale do Lobo beach, will be present today at the Judicial Court of Loulé «for the application of coercive measures, with a view to instituting coercive removal proceedings for irregular stay in national territory», said the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF).

The migrants, all men, were guarded by the SEF yesterday, which "developed the necessary procedures to establish their identities, since they arrived undocumented".

The group was eventually transferred last night to the National Republican Guard posts and Public Security Police stations in the district of Faro, where they stayed overnight.

Yesterday, the group of 22 men, who claim to be Moroccans, had already been subjected to tests for screening Covid-19.

Citizens, intercepted by the Maritime Police, were «always guaranteed their basic needs, including food and medical assistance», concludes the SEF in a statement sent to newsrooms.
