Quarteira will count people walking and cycling near the bike path

The initiative is co-financed by the Environmental Fund of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Action

Quarteira will have a system for counting people and bicycles, near the intersection of Avenida Carlos Mota Pinto and Rua Vasco da Gama (near the bike path). The work is completed «this week».

The system, which already exists in Vilamoura, «has the objective of collecting concrete data about the ways in which people who frequent this space move, the places they visit more often and how these numbers vary over time. », explains the Chamber of Loulé.

This is because “an increase in the information available on these habits of gentle mobility will benefit the management and planning of urban space and will allow the definition of more effective and adequate sustainability policies for the territory”.

The data obtained will be transferred to an aggregating platform that will enable their consultation, treatment and monitoring.

In parallel, «it is intended that this information can be made available to users of the Quarteira Lab space, either through digital information panels installed for this purpose or through a mobile application».

This is another of the initiatives implemented by the Loulé City Council, which «intends to promote the decarbonization of the city of Quarteira through the installation of solutions that allow for information, reduce the use of polluting vehicles and, consequently, the emission of greenhouse gases, contributing to the increase of air quality and to the creation of a more sustainable urban space».

The initiative is co-financed by the Environmental Fund of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Action.
