“Proximidades”, a cycle of free concerts with artists and technicians from Albufeira and broadcast live on YouTube, is back this Saturday, May 16, from 21 pm, with a performance by Gonçalo Pescada and Carla Pontes.

The lyrical singing of the soprano Carla Pontes is associated with the classic accordion by Gonçalo Pescada «for a unique moment of musical sharing», says Câmara de Albufeira.

The concert program ranges from Bach and Caccini to Gershwin and Astor Piazzolla, also including works by Zeca Afonso.

The alignment is as follows: JS Bach (1685-1750) – “Jesu, Joy of man ́s desiring” (Cantata BWV 147); G. Caccini (1551-1618) – “Hail Mary”; José Afonso (1929-1987) – “Ballad of Autumn” and “Cantigas do Maio”; Carlos Paredes
(1925-2004) – “Green Years”; V. Vlassov (b. 1936) – “Steps”; G. Gershwin (1898-1937) – “Summertime”, “The man
I love” and “I got rhythm” and, finally, the classic Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992), “Oblivion”, “Vuelvo al sur” and “Yo soy
Mary".

This concert will be broadcast on Youtube of the Municipality.

“The artists perform at the recommended distance from each other and to various cameras for recording and live broadcasting”, explains the municipality.

As the mayor of Albufeira has already mentioned, «this initiative aims to enhance the role of local artists, giving them the opportunity to show their talent, contributing in some way to alleviate the cancellation of several shows that took place throughout the country» .

José Carlos Rolo added that «this program is being prepared for the months of May and June, and may be more comprehensive depending on the evolution of the situation we are going through» and stresses that «this is the first of several cultural initiatives that we intend to implement and in this sense, we are also available to collect suggestions from our artistic community to meet your needs».

The mayor also refers to the importance of, "in this period of confinement, we make art and culture reach people, using existing technological means and within the required safety standards".
