Louletano rises to the 2nd national Futsal division

Casa do Benfica de Quarteira was ranked first but cannot be promoted for lack of a «mandatory requirement for access to the Senior National Futsal Championship»

Louletano Sports Club was the club chosen to move up to the 2nd division of the Senior National Futsal Championship, announced the Football Association of the Algarve (AFA).

The decision to indicate to the Portuguese Football Federation that Louletano will move up the division and not Casa do Benfica de Quarteira, which occupied the first position in the district championship when the competition was interrupted, due to Covid-19, is justified with the the fact that the latter club does not fulfill a “mandatory requirement for access to the Senior National Futsal Championship”.

The fact is that Casa do Benfica de Quarteira does not have "at least one team in one of the U19, U-17, U-15 or U-13 that has participated in 2019/2020 in national or regional competitions".

The AFA has also determined that there will be no descent from the 1st to the 2nd district futsal division. However, there will be rises from the second to the first regional level, with the top three classified at the time of the interruption, Clube Recreativo Alturense, Bellavista Desportivo Clube and Quarteira Futsal Clube.

These decisions were taken following what was determined on Thursday by the Portuguese Football Federation "in relation to the restructuring of Futsal competitions, due to the impact that Covid-19 had on the normal course of competitions."

The FPF decided to "deal with this exceptional situation with exceptional measures, which would convey a message of confidence and encouragement for the future, and that from the outset they would always have to foresee team promotions and never relegation".

The Algarve Football Association took the opportunity to leave «a word of confidence and motivation for its contingent that remains in the 2nd Division Senior Futsal National Championship», Sporting Clube Farense, Albufeira Futsal Clube and Sonâmbulos Futsal Luzense Associação, "so that in the next sporting season, which will be extremely demanding, they can achieve the goals we all want."

«We also extend sincere greetings and congratulations to Portimonense Sporting Clube, which in its debut season in Liga Placard brilliantly managed to overcome a less positive start, finding itself at the time of interruption of the race with reasons to aim at achieving a truly historic result for Algarvian Futsal, to which was added a fantastic journey in the Cup of Portugal, unfairly and inglorious interrupted in the semi-finals, due to the Covid-19 pandemic», concluded the AFA.
