The Chamber of Faro decided, at the meeting last Tuesday, May 5th, to distribute 8 thousand euros to four animal support associations. This is “extraordinary support” at this time of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The money will be given to the associations “Associação Animals de Rua”, “Movimento pro Animal de Faro (MAF)”, “Associação Gatos de Jardim” and “PRAVI – Support Project for Helpless Victims”.
This measure, says the Chamber of Faro, «is in line with a guiding principle of respect and preservation of animal welfare and dignity that the Municipality has followed, collaborating with associations for the defense of the animal cause and having been co-organizing and supporting awareness campaigns against abandonment, bad -treatment and care of animals'.
In addition, the Municipality “has adopted several measures such as not accepting circus shows in public spaces with animals in captivity and carrying out projects of capture, sterilization and return with excellent results”.
In this sense, the Municipality «included an initiative dedicated to the animal cause and associations that fight against the scourge of animal abandonment in the last batch of measures announced to face the effects of the pandemic crisis – after a first set of 31 presented under the program #FaroI can".
