A3ES Board of Directors certifies UAlg's Internal Quality Assurance System

For the rector Paulo Águas, this recognition «results from the commitment of the entire academic community with quality and continuous improvement of the institution's performance in all aspects

The Board of Directors of the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES) decided to certify the Internal Quality Assurance System of the University of Algarve (UAlg) for a period of six years.

«This recognition is of the utmost importance because quality assurance is a fundamental principle in the Institution's strategy», says UAlg.

For the rector Paulo Águas, this recognition "results from the commitment of the entire academic community with the quality and continuous improvement of the institution's performance in all aspects of its mission."

In his opinion, «today we are different, for the better, being at the forefront of good practices at national level. Obtaining full certification is not a point of arrival, but just another stage in a continuous journey to improve the quality of our processes».

The institutional policy for the quality of the University of Algarve is «associated with the Institution's mission and development strategy, so that the UAlg's Internal Quality Assurance System is based, in essence, on two documents, the Quality Manual and the Strategic Plan, which are supported by a third document, the Annual Activity Plan».

The function of UAlg's Internal Quality Assurance System is to guarantee the quality and continuous improvement of the Institution, within the scope of each of the core aspects of its mission and the transversal areas that support them: teaching and learning, research and development, inter-institutional and community collaboration, internationalization, personnel management policies and support services.

This is only possible through a continuous monitoring plan and participatory action by all stakeholders.

Thus, «UAlg formally assumes its commitment to quality assurance and continuous improvement of its activities, in line with the A3ES principles for the Internal Quality Assurance Systems in Higher Education Institutions».
