The foreign community of Lagos makes "constant" contributions to fight Covid-19

Representatives of the Swedish and French community were received at the Town Hall. British community delivered equipment to firefighters

The foreign community residing in the municipality of Lagos is also contributing to the fight against Covid-19, through donations to the municipality and local entities.

Local foreign entrepreneurs and the community in general have been mobilizing and «donations in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and the contribution with funds have been constant», according to the Câmara de Lagos.

So far, these efforts have allowed to deposit "an amount in excess of 30 thousand euros in the solidarity bank account, to which is added the value of 10 thousand euros in donated PPE".

Yesterday, Hugo Pereira, Mayor of Lagos, received representatives of the Swedish community and the French community (the latter represented by the “Les Copains de Lagos” Association) at the Town Hall.

«However, Tomorrow Magazine and TACT (Tomorrow Algarve Charity Trust) have been promoting a fundraising campaign for food support to be allocated, in conjunction with the local authority, to families in Lagos who are experiencing greater difficulties socio-economic conditions,” added the Chamber.

 

The Swedish community, represented by Annika Feder and Claes Lindesvärd, was received by Hugo Pereira (Mayor) and Sara Coelho (City Councilor)

 

On the 6th of May «the British community had already delivered a donation of PPE to the Association of Voluntary Firefighters of Lagos».

Hugo Pereira «thanked the generosity shown by these foreign communities, as well as the local businessmen and other civil society entities who mobilized and actively involved in this movement of solidarity with institutions that, on the ground, are providing support to the population in the fight. to the pandemic'.

The solidary bank account was created «under the Collaboration Agreement established between the City Council and the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Lagos, to gather donations from companies, individuals and institutions that have been keen to contribute», recalled the Lacobrigense autarchy.

«These funds are intended for the acquisition of protective equipment for those who are in the front line in providing support to populations, establishments and professionals, more specifically to hospitals in the region, Health Centre, security forces, Private Solidarity Institutions Social, Red Cross and Firefighters, among others», added the Chamber.
