Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes reopens its doors today on the 160th anniversary of its patron

By the end of the year, the first of five volumes of the writer's complete work will be released

The Manuel Teixeira Gomes Municipal House, in Portimão, reopens its doors this Wednesday, May 27th, marking the 160th anniversary of the birth of its patron.  

On this day, a video about the life and work of Manuel Teixeira Gomes, writer, businessman, diplomat and President of the Republic between 1923 and 1925, born in Vila Nova de Portimão on May 27, will be shared on the social networks of the Municipality of Portimão. 1860.

The video reproduces a small fictitious conversation, during which the statesman and man of letters discusses aspects of his life and work, and is illustrated with images of the Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes, cultural equipment adapted by the Municipality of Portimão from the building where the writer and politician was born and resided for some periods of his life.

Also today, May 27, the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Municipal Library will launch a set of six postcards, reproducing excerpts from the letters sent by the birthday boy to some of his friends, under the designation “Impressões de Viagem”.

This cultural facility also marks the anniversary with the availability, on its Facebook page, of a series of 21 slides inspired by old postcards of the places where Teixeira Gomes walked, from Portimão to the Mediterranean shores.

Also on this day, a video slideshow will be available in the same space on the Internet, entitled “Brief Biography of Teixeira Gomes”.

Anyone wishing to learn more about Manuel Teixeira Gomes has a valuable personal collection of the most illustrious Portimão at the permanent exhibition “Portimão – Território e Identidade”, on display at the Museu de Portimão.

By the end of the year, the schedule prepared by the Municipality of Portimão to mark the 160th anniversary of the birth of Manuel Teixeira Gomes includes the launch of Manuel Teixeira Gomes – Biography, II revised edition, from the first of five volumes with the complete work of the writer, as well as a get-together and a colloquium.

 



 

New deconfinement rules

Similar to what happened with the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Library and the Portimão Museum, during the period when it was closed to the public, the Manuel Teixeira Gomes House underwent a profound cleaning and sanitation intervention, in order to fulfill the plan of deconfinement determined by the local Public Health Unit, with contributions from the municipal Civil Protection structure.

Users are now obliged to respect a set of standards of face-to-face care, in accordance with the guidelines of the General Directorate of Health, and must disinfect their hands in the gel dispensers and use a mask, at the same time they must respect the distance at least two meters, in addition to adopting the respiratory label.

The public opening hours of Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes are now as follows: Monday to Friday, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 14:30 pm to 17:00 pm, being available to visit the permanent exhibition room, which will have six people capacity maximum.
