Relieved bathers at Praia dos Careanos and at Algar de Benagil

Algarve is under yellow warning due to maritime agitation

An 18-year-old bather, who was in difficulties, was rescued this afternoon, at around 17 pm, at Praia dos Careanos, in Portimão, by the boat from Ferragudo's Salva-Vidas Station. During the morning, two other people who were trapped in the Benagil cave, in Lagoa, were also rescued by the authorities.

In the case of the 18-year-old, after being rescued, he was transported to Marina de Portimão, where he waited for the ambulance, to take him to the hospital as a matter of precaution. Two other young people who were also at sea, "supporting the first one were taken to land by water motorbike," said González Paços, captain of the Port of Portimão, to the Sul Informação.

This morning, in Benagil, two men, aged 26 and 27, were also rescued by boat from the Ferragudo Life-Saving Station, after being trapped in the algar.

The Algarve is under yellow warning due to the agitation of the sea, with waves from the Southeast, which can reach two meters, especially in the Barlavento.

This situation requires extra care, since this year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the beaches, even the concessionaires, are still unsupervised, which will only happen with the official start of the bathing season, on the 6th of June.

During the morning, a 69-year-old man drowned in Prainha, in Alvor. A young man who tried to help him has been missing since then.
