AMAL candidate for EEA Grants PIAAC training and promotion actions

Application was formalized on April 30th

AMAL submitted an application to the EEA Grants, through the AwK project – Adaptation with Knowledge, Climate Chante, to develop capacity building and communication actions related to the Intermunicipal Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change (PIAAC).

The Algarve Intermunicipal Community (AMAL) explains that, «as the promoter of the PIAAC, it formalized, last April 30, an application to the EEA Grants».

This is the Multiannual Financial Mechanism through which Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway financially support the member states of the European Union with greater deviations from the European average of GDP per capita, as is the case of Portugal.

To enhance the work carried out so far, AMAL submitted an application within the scope of the AwK project – Adaptation with Knowledge, Climate Change, «whose main mission is to change behavior, gradually and progressively, in order to improve the population's capacity to adapt to changes climate'.

Through AwK, AMAL intends to «train municipal technical teams to implement strategies in their territories, as well as involve society in the environmental challenges that are currently being faced. In other words, stimulate individual and collective action, by informing and raising awareness among citizens, communities and tourists about the consequences of climate change foreseen in the Algarve, making them aware of the need for behavioral changes».

The AwK project will run from July 2020 to June 2022, with AMAL partners with the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA) and The Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities (KS).

The Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve stresses that, within the scope of the execution of the PIAAC, the Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve is also one of the entities that integrate the working group for the preparation of the Regional Water Efficiency Plan of the Algarve, with the main focus being the adoption strategies to optimize water consumption, an essential resource in the region.
