Afro Nation postponed to 2021 and with more artists on the lineup

Last year, 25 people came from abroad for this festival

This year's edition of the Afro Nation festival, in Portimão, has been postponed to July 2021. The poster is maintained and there are even new names announced.

The second edition of the international festival was originally scheduled for the 17th, 18th and 19th of July in Portimão, but the government's recent decision to ban large-scale events in the country until September led promoters to postpone the festival.

Isilda Gomes, president of the Portimão Chamber, already had, moreover, confirmed the advance of the festival, in statements to the Sul Informação.

All tickets purchased for 2020 remain valid for the new dates.

Promoters open up the possibility to their customers, if they so wish, to be able to offer their tickets for sale through an official resale platform.

As for the poster, it maintains names such as Wizkid, Beenie Man, French Montana, Tory Lanez, Diamond Platinumz and Chronixx.

But there is also news: Burna Boy, Davido, Skepta, Yemi Alade and Mavado are new names already confirmed

Afro Nation, moreover, says that "it has been closely following the situation in Portugal and working, together with its partners, with local authorities and with the Portuguese Government".

«The safety of the public, artists, staff and the local community is, and will always be, the main concern of promoters», reads a statement.

For Obi Asika, director of the festival, “we have been working hard on a solution and studying all the possibilities. Fortunately, we are in a position to confirm an even more incredible line-up for 2021. As an independent festival, we are determined to produce, in Portimão, the biggest and best Afrobeats festival in the world».

In the last edition, more than 25.000 foreigners came, mainly from the United Kingdom, to enjoy the sounds and rhythms of African origin.

For Isilda Gomes, mayor of Portimão, "only a pandemic on a global scale could postpone the realization in Praia da Rocha of Afro Nation."

"We share with the organizers the demand not only on the quality of the events that we host or organize but also on the security that we like to provide to all our visitors, so we are in solidarity with the decision to postpone this great event", he added.

The mayor also left the guarantee that «the people of Portimão will do everything to provide unforgettable experiences: illustrated postcards that will certainly be kept in the memories of the art of hospitality».

The promoters also congratulate the Portimão hotel industry which, in 2021, will guarantee the same conditions of stay and price to all festival-goers of Afro Nation.

João Fernandes, president of the Algarve Tourism Region, recognizes the value of all major initiatives, such as the Afro Nation Festival, which promote and enrich the diversity and attractiveness of Portugal's main tourist destination.

«We salute and are fully supportive of the decision taken by the festival's organization, which, incidentally, is in line with the recent indications of the Portuguese Government. Portugal has rightly gained international recognition for its ability to prevent and control the pandemic, and Turismo do Algarve is proud of its contribution to strengthening the safety of the destination and the confidence of tourists», he said.

The event's promoters, which in Portugal have the producer MOT as a partner, guarantee that they will “wait for the legislation that comes to be approved, guaranteeing that they will scrupulously comply with Portuguese law and all consumer rights”.
