2600 kilos of cockles and 600 kilos of shellfish, valued at 11.800 euros, were seized this morning by the GNR's Coastal Control Unit (UCC) in Olhão.

During a patrol of the Olhão Coastal Control Sub-Deployment, 'three vessels and four men, aged between 35 and 55 years, were detected to harvest bivalves outside the legally established daily periods, between sunrise and sunset. -of the sun".

The military approached the fishermen, who still tried to flee when they realized their arrival, “but were intercepted in possession of 2600 kilos of cockles. In addition to breaking the schedule, they also did not have a license that would allow them to catch the bivalves», adds the GNR.

Already in the morning, five professional fishing vessels that were catching bivalves in a prohibited area were inspected. Five more men, aged between 25 and 62, were identified and 600 kilos of shellfish were seized.

In total, in the two actions, 12 administrative offenses were prepared, which can lead to fines of up to 50 euros.
