Piaget de Silves became a support zone in the fight against Covid-19

Piaget Institute's Silves Campus is today a «variant of a field hospital»

The Jean Piaget School of Health in Algarve, in Silves, was transformed into a Population Support Zone (ZAP) with 50 beds, to help fight the Covid-19 pandemic, which has already received the first people, the housemates of a man infected with the new coronavirus.

According to the Piaget Institute, the transfer of its facilities in Silves came “following the decision of the Algarve municipality to create three population support zones (ZAP), anticipating scenarios that it is better to be prepared for the worst, in order to allow a quick answer. In addition to the facilities of the Jean Piaget School of Health, it was decided to create two more ZAP, one in Pera and the other in Armação de Pera, with a total of 180 beds».

"The spaces make it possible to accommodate specific groups of the population that need to be isolated (namely to support elderly homes) and to receive and support, if necessary, elements of the Civil Protection and National Health Service (SNS) forces," he added. the Piaget.

The transformation of this teaching establishment into "a variant of a field hospital" took into account the proximity to the Health Center of Silves, where a community support center is operating, in the area where the emergencies functioned, integrated into the ARS network Algarve.

"Unlike traditional field hospitals, there was a concern to ensure some additional comfort for those who had to stay there, with the municipality and other local entities mobilizing to ensure beds in good condition, clothes and some extra furniture, such as sofas." according to the institute.

«The last few weeks have been marked by the uncertainty caused by the pandemic that has ravaged the world, so the Piaget Institute will do everything to always be at the side of the communities where it operates, in convergence with one of the Institution's strategic intervention axes. We immediately made the Silves campus available to local authorities and health authorities, convinced that with effort, resilience and transforming capacity we will together overcome this crisis», summarized Nelson Sousa, director of the Jean Piaget School of Health in Algarve.
