Montenegro residents complain of having been "intoxicated" by fire [with photos]

Residents, confined to their homes, say that even the closed windows stopped the smoke from entering

Neither outside the home, due to Covid-19, nor indoors, because of the smoke from an authorized burning of a cane field near Montenegro, in Faro.

The situation angered the residents, who assert that they were prevented from opening the windows, but that, even so, "the smoke got into it", according to a complaint sent to our newspaper. They even say they have been “intoxicated”.

On Wednesday, a fire near the Ibis hotel, in Pontes de Marchil, had already caused alarm among the population of the city, as the smoke could be seen from far away.

Contacted by Sul Informação, the District Relief Operations Command of Faro confirmed that this was an authorized action and revealed that "the firefighters and the GNR were on the spot to verify the safety conditions, which were met".
