The 25th of April speeches in Portimão, which this year will only be broadcast on the municipality's Facebook page, as there is no in-person public session, they have another novelty: they will be translated into Portuguese Sign Language.

The translator will be Daniela Anastácio, a young woman from the Algarve. In fact, as revealed to the Sul Informação source of the local authority, «everything is produced here in Portimão, from transmission to simultaneous translation in sign language».

Due to the current confinement due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year the people from Portimo will celebrate the 25th of April at home. The official program that marks the 46th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution will have as its main stage the Municipality Facebook, which can be accessed by clicking here.

Just the day before, today, the 24th, there will be several online initiatives. As part of the Biblioteca em Casa program, it starts at 18 pm, at the Facebook, the activity for the whole family “The Cravo, symbol of the Revolution, how is it done?”, produced by Manuel Teixeira Gomes Municipal Library, followed, an hour later, and also for the whole family, by the initiative “Carnations as a motto of unity and hope”.

The day will close, from 23:00, with the interpretation by the Philharmonic Society Portimonense of one of the unofficial anthems of the 25th of April, the theme by Ermelinda Duarte “We are Free”, a symbolic moment that can be followed on the page of Portimão Municipality Facebook, where you will be able to watch all the programming, except for the events indicated otherwise.

The official celebrations for the 25th of April will begin at 9:00 am, with the traditional raising of flags and the interpretation of the national anthem by the fado singer João Leote, accompanied by the conductor Gabriel Rodeia, who will be in charge of the Sociedade Filarmónica Portimonense.

An hour later, the retrospective exhibition “Recordar a Corrida da Liberdade” is made available online, where images of 15 editions of the emblematic athletics event are gathered, which, from the very beginning, has been part of the 25th of April program in the city.

At 11:00 am, it will be the turn of the singer, poet, composer and lyricist Afonso Dias to interpret poems and Canções de Abril.

On the same municipal page will be available, at 11:30 am, the evocative messages of the anniversary, which will be uttered by the representatives of the political parties with a seat in the Municipal Assembly, as well as by the President of the Municipal Assembly of Portimão, João Vieira, and by the Mayor of Portimão, Isilda Gomes. It is for these speeches that there will be simultaneous translation in Portuguese sign language.
