Covid-19: Portugal has performed 110 diagnostic tests since 1 March

Portugal has carried out 110 diagnostic tests for Covid-19 since 1 March, the Secretary of State for Health announced today.

“In this collective decisive phase in the fight against the virus, it is important to emphasize that Portugal continues to increase the number of tests carried out. Since March 1st, 110 diagnostic tests have been carried out”, said António Sales at the daily press conference to update information on the Covid-19 pandemic, the disease caused by the new coronavirus.

The Secretary of State stressed that the installed capacity for diagnosis is 11 tests per day, XNUMX in the public sector and XNUMX in the private sector.

According to António Sales, 54% of the tests were carried out in public laboratories and 46% in private ones.

“It is also important to say that Portugal has a test of around 10.500 processed samples per million inhabitants, which is in line and, in some cases, above countries like Sweden and Denmark and not far from Italy”, he stressed.

The Secretary of State also ensured “some stability in the purchases” of material and in the forecast of delivery of orders.

According to the official, this week 500 fans will arrive in Portugal and, next week, another 500.

Of the donations made by various organizations, António Sales said that 144 ventilators are being delivered to hospitals across the country and according to needs.

“This equipment [fan] is crucial at a time when the number of patients in intensive care units is increasing,” he said.

The secretary of state also said that, starting today, anyone can volunteer to help in homes and institutions that work with the elderly.
