José Luz Santos, founder of CÍVIS – Association for the Deepening of Citizenship, who was notable for his civic action and in the field of culture, died.
José Luz, who was 2020 years old in 85, was “self-taught, attentive to the ways of the world, active and committed to the life of his land and country, he soon began his civic and political activity”, according to Civis .
«He left us memories in a written work in what was his activity as a word worker, sown in every space in which he could germinate. In the press, in conferences, seminars and congresses, in meetings and conversations, where the causes of citizenship were a theme, there was always a place occupied by José da Luz», describes the association.
Brief biographical note:
José Luz Santos was born in Faro in 1935.
His civic activity, started in 1964 as a member of the board of Sporting Clube Farense, also includes his intervention in the Pro-University of the Algarve Movement as a member of the Algarve Cultural Circle, whose governing bodies he joined in February 1974. Founding Partner of COOPPOFA in 1976, Honorary Member of the Cineclube de Faro in 1997. Founding partner of CÍVIS – Association for the Deepening of Citizenship and of Círculo Teixeira Gomes – Association for the Algarve in 1997.
In 1998, he joined the “Movimento Sim pela Regionalização, Sim ao Algarve”.
Honorary Member of AIESEC – Association Internationale des Etudiants en Sciences Economiques et Commerciales de Faro, University of Algarve (2001).

Received the “Culture of Excellence” commemorative plaque for the 15th Anniversary of AIESEC of Faro – University of Algarve (2006).
He received the Honorary Membership plaque in the commemorations of the 50th Anniversary of the Cineclube de Faro
In 2007 he received the Municipal Medal of Merit – Gold degree from the Municipality of Faro.
As a communicator and advocate of causes, he began to collaborate, with some regularity, in the Algarve press, publishing opinion articles from 1971 onwards, being appointed RTP correspondent in the area of information in 1974.
He participated civically with numerous communications on various grounds and coordinated the editing of several books.
