IKEA will close stores from tomorrow due to Covid-19

MAR Shopping Algarve store will also close

All IKEA stores in Portugal will be closed to the public, due to the new coronavirus, as of this Wednesday, March 18. The measure was announced this afternoon, in a statement, by the Swedish group.

“The health and well-being of our employees, customers and partners is IKEA Portugal's top priority”, says Helen Duphorn, country manager of IKEA Portugal.

The Swedish group, which, in the Algarve, has a store at MAR Shopping, in Loulé, emphasizes that it has followed «all the recommendations of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) and the Government, carefully evaluating the best for people and for the business at each stage” and, “after the Government had transferred the responsibility of closing stores to retailers”, decided to close the stores.

Despite the physical stores being closed, IKEA says that “it will ensure the best possible experience for its customers through the IKEA.pt website, while preparing the stores for their reopening”, which will happen “according to with the recommendations of the relevant authorities and the General Directorate of Health”. The aim is to "open stores to the public as quickly as possible".
