Mitigation phase: ARS Algarve opens 3 Areas Dedicated to Covid-19 in Portimão, Olhão and Tavira

13 Covid-19 Harvesting Stations agreed throughout the Algarve will also come into operation

The Algarve Regional Health Administration today opened three Areas Dedicated to Covid-19 (ADC-Community), in primary health care, one in each of the Health Centers Group, (Portimão, Olhão and Tavira) following the entry of Portugal in the pandemic mitigation phase.

These areas, created in the Health Centers of Portimão, Olhão and Tavira, are intended “only to care for users with suspected SARS-CoV-2 infection, by teams consisting of a doctor, nurse, operational, administrative assistant and team cleaning,” explains ARS.

The ADC-Community of Health Centers are composed of observation rooms, reception and waiting areas and toilets separate from the other users and will operate in a space completely separate from the care of patients who do not present suspicions of Covid-19.

In this first phase, the ADC-Community will operate every weekday, between 8:00 am and 20:00 pm, and the hours may be extended, if justified.

At the University Hospital Center of the Algarve, two Areas Dedicated to Covid-19 (ADC – Emergency Service) are already operating 24 hours a day, together with the emergency services of the hospital units in Faro and from Portimão.

ARS Algarve also reinforces «the importance that people who present respiratory symptoms or fever, before traveling to these Areas Dedicated to Covid-19, should, first of all, contact the SNS24 line (808 24 24 24) which, after the evaluation, he will refer them to the most appropriate health service».

Over the next week, ARS Algarve, in articulation with the three ACeS (Barlavento, Central and Sotavento), will expand the number of ADC – Community in the main Health Centers in the Region.

In addition to the opening of the ADC – Community in Primary Health Care, ARS Algarve, in conjunction with the agreed laboratories in the region, will create a network of 13 agreed Covid-19 Harvesting Stations, distributed throughout the Algarve and which will serve to carry out the tests prescribed in the ADC-Community/Health Centers and through the NHS24.

As part of the reorganization of the provision of urgent care, in this ongoing mitigation phase, ARS Algarve also informs that the four Basic Emergency Services (SUB) of the University Hospital Center of Algarve, (Lagos, Loulé, Albufeira and Vila Real de Santo António ), «are operating exclusively for the care of non-Covid-19 patients, with the objective of guaranteeing the necessary access and safety in the treatment and provision of health care to the entire population».
