The decree of the state of emergency was approved this afternoon in the Assembly of the Republic, with no votes against. PCP, Verdes, Iniciativa Liberal and Joacine Katar Moreira abstained, while the other parties voted in favour.

The Government had already given a positive opinion on the decree of state of emergency, requested by the President of the Republic, due to the outbreak of the new coronavirus.

Tomorrow, Thursday, there will be a meeting of the Council of Ministers, which will decide which measures will be implemented under this decision.

The law provides for a state of emergency to be decreed for 15 days, after which it is renewable.
