The Integrated Masters in Medicine (MIM) at the University of Algarve (UAlg) may be about to suspend all its teaching activities, similarly to what will happen in medical faculties across the country.

The National Council of Medical Schools took the decision this morning to close the country's eight faculties of medicine, including the one in the Algarve, according to RTP.

Contacted by Sul Informação, the UAlg rectory did not confirm, but also did not deny the closing of the medical course, choosing not to comment on the news.

Any decision to close colleges, he added, "will be agreed with all the country's universities", bearing in mind that tomorrow there will be meetings of the Council of Rectors of Portuguese Universities (CRUP) and of the Coordinating Council of Polytechnic Institutes (CCISP).

It is true that, according to the Sul Informação with MIM students, in the Algarve, academic activities and clinical internships have already been cancelled.

The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto has gone further, which not only canceled all practical classes, namely those held at Hospital de São João, but also theoretical classes.

It is this practice that will now be adopted by all the other seven Faculties of Medicine in the country, according to the decision of the National Council of Medical Schools, guarantees the RTP. The measure affects almost "12.500 students".
