Covid-19: There are 1142 fans in Portugal

There are 1142 fans in Portugal. The number was just mentioned by António Lacerda, Secretary of State for Health, at the daily briefing, which also included Graça Freitas, Director General of Health.

Of these fans, according to the government official, 528 are in intensive care, 480 are in operating rooms and there are another 134 "as expansion capacity".

António Lacerda adds that "there are still more than 250 fans in the private sector" and "the use of army equipment is being articulated with the Ministry of Defense".

With regard to personal protection material, the Secretary of State says that “we are managing the resources in the best way possible and we are going to the market to get the acquisition of materials. More than 2 million masks will be distributed this week and 150 thousand personal protection equipment».

António Lacerda Sales also specified that of the 448 infected in Portugal, confirmed by the epidemiological bulletin of the DGS, 30 are health professionals, 18 of which are doctors.

The government official recalled that we are in a phase of "acceleration of contagion" and called for "the reinforcement of individual and collective responsibility."

In this sense, the Secretary of State revealed that requests have already been received for the hiring of about 450 health professionals of various classes, reaffirming that their hiring will be facilitated.

"There are 1800 doctors and 1000 nurses to strengthen the National Health Service," he added.

Graça Freitas, Health Director-General, on the other hand, did not confirm the confirmed case in Madeira advanced by Miguel Albuquerque, President of the Regional Government, since a counter-analysis is still awaited.

Regarding the pregnant woman who is contaminated with Covid-19, and who gave birth, Graça Freitas said that childbirth care “was ideal” and “we hope that the child is not born infected”.
