Covid-19: Algarve with 25 cases, Alentejo has 2, there are already 785 in the country

Another person died, from the Center Region, who was hospitalized in Coimbra Hospitals

Covid-19 cases in the Algarve rose to 25 this Thursday, four more than yesterday. In Portugal, the number of people infected by the new coronavirus already rises to 785 and there is yet another death to be registered, the third since the beginning of the epidemic.

The most recent epidemiological bulletin from the General Directorate of Health also reveals that there are no more cases in Alentejo besides the two that were confirmed yesterday.

The third death took place at the Hospital de Coimbra and was a patient from the Center region. On the other hand, there were no other patients to be discharged, the three remaining recovered.

From yesterday to today, the number of infected increased by 143.

Of the 785 patients with Covid-19, 89 are hospitalized, 20 of them in intensive care. In both cases, the number is the same as yesterday.

As for the active transmission chains, there are still 24. By region, the North of the country has the most cases, 381, followed by Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (278), Centro (86), Algarve (25), Azores (3), Alentejo (2) and
Wood (1).

There are also nine cases of citizens residing abroad.

As for suspected cases, there are now 6061, with 488 people waiting for the test result. The number of unconfirmed cases is 4788 and 8091 contacts under surveillance.

At the usual press conference to assess the epidemiological situation, the Secretary of State for Health António Sales began by recalling this Thursday, at the usual press conference, the most recent numbers regarding Covid-19 in Portugal.

“We are in fact in a state of emergency. The declaration of a state of emergency makes us even more alert, a muscled response from the State gives rise to a more robust response from people. No panic, but with responsibility», he said.

“Primary health care is reorganizing itself. Family doctors are already contacting patients with scheduled appointments by telephone, and will continue to do so. Users should favor the telephone contacts of the health centres, which are adapting. We continue to work on all fronts to fight the outbreak. Health professionals continue to be the front line», added the member of the Government.

Graça Freitas, the General Director of Health, present at the same Press Conference, warned that «we are going up the curve and, at this stage, we are going to change the form of care. Gradually, we are going to move from reference hospitals to another service model».

"Any one of us, almost all of us will have mild to moderate symptoms, in which case we should call the NHS 24 and we will be followed at our house, as most of the patients are already being followed up to date", warned Graça Freitas , leaving a word of "tranquility" and a call for confidence "in this mechanism".

Regarding the application of mass tests, the Director General of Health considered that «we are learning from each other. The testing strategy is being adapted as we learned».

"Be assured that our strategy is expanded according to risk criteria: whenever we can expand, we will expand, if there is evidence that the wider screening works", he assured.
