Coronavirus: Visits to hospitals, homes and prisons in the North suspended

There are already 21 confirmed patients

Visits to all hospitals, homes and prisons in the North were suspended, a region where 15 of the 21 patients with the new coronavirus are hospitalized, the Health Minister has just announced at a press conference.

Some educational establishments will also be closed, namely the Basic and Secondary School of Idães, in Felgueiras, the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar, both from the University of Porto, and the building where the History course is taught. of the University of Minho.

However, the General Directorate of Health confirmed, this Saturday night, that the number of infected by Covid-19 in Portugal has risen to 21. Among the new patients, three are between 10 and 19 years old.

According to the epidemiological bulletin released this Saturday night by the DGS, in addition to these 21 infected, 224 suspects have already been registered. 47 people are awaiting laboratory results.

Of the total number of infected (15 men and six women), only five were imported (four from Italy and one from Spain), and the remaining 16 were infected by other patients in Portugal, with three transmission chains. Fifteen are hospitalized in the North, one in the Center (in Coimbra), and five in Greater Lisbon.

Cough, fever, difficulty breathing, headache, muscle pain and generalized weakness are the symptoms presented by patients, although they are not all present in each patient.

Health authorities keep 412 contacts under surveillance.

In Porto, the Hospital Center of São João announced, this Saturday, the installation of a field hospital “to respond exclusively to Covid-19”.

The hospital is provided by the Portuguese Red Cross, and should be transported from Lisbon this evening, to be set up tomorrow, Sunday, in the parking lot next to São João. The field hospital should start operating on Monday.
