The annual campaign for the prevention of rabies and other diseases that can be transmitted by animals to humans (zoonoses) takes place in the municipality of Silves, between the 2nd of March and the 30th of April. In addition to vaccination, pet owners will also be able to carry out electronic identification.
The action, under the responsibility of the General Directorate of Food and Veterinary Medicine (DGAV), will be responsible for the Official Service of Anti-rabies Vaccination and Electronic Identification Luís de Sousa Aleixo, responsible for the Municipal Veterinary Medical Office.
In addition to the animal's documents, the holders of the animals to be vaccinated/chipped must be accompanied by their Citizen's Card or, in its absence, by their ID card and taxpayer number so that the respective collection receipt can be issued.
Although there are dates and places defined for this campaign, it is possible to have rabies vaccination and electronic identification every Tuesday, at 9:00 am, at the Silves Official Collection Center (former kennel).
The campaign's actions are aimed only at dogs, cats and ferrets being excluded. The vaccination fee (rate E) has a single value of 10 euros, which includes the placement of the transponder. The amount of 2,50 euros corresponding to the registration in the Companion Animal Information System (SIAC), will be borne by the Municipality of Silves.
