Portimão tests Municipal Aerodrome emergency plan

The Aerodrome performs a full-scale exercise every two years

The Municipal Aerodrome of Portimão will host this Wednesday, February 19, at 14 pm, a simulacrum of an air accident to test its ability to react to an emergency.

Every two years, the Aerodrome carries out a full-scale exercise in order to test the response under the Aerodrome Emergency Plan (PEA), allowing the assessment of the procedures contained in that strategic document and diagnosing any improvements to be considered for the future. the most recent occurred in 2018.

The exercise is called “AERO_PTM'2020” and will be developed in full scale with movement of means on the ground (Live Exercise – LIVEX).

Simultaneously, the articulation of the internal response means with the external response device provided for in the Prior Intervention Plan of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority for serious accident scenarios that may occur in the aforementioned infrastructure will be tested.

Although the exercise scenario is fictitious, it will allow actions to be taken in the event of a real scenario, checking if the expected behaviors, actions and execution times correspond to international regulations.

All participants in the plan will participate in the “AERO_PTM'2020”, namely: Fire Department, Portuguese Red Cross, GNR, PSP, Maritime Authority, Hospital de Portimão, INEM, Foreigners and Borders Service, National Institute of Legal and Forensic Medicine, as well as other cooperating entities.

The direction of the Municipal Aerodrome and the Municipal Civil Protection Service (SMPC) of Portimão, in collaboration with the District Command for Relief Operations (CDOS) of Faro, streamline this exercise, bringing the scenarios closer to a real situation and challenging the participants in the process of solving the foreseeable consequences.

During the year, and given the movement of real assets, it is likely that there will be constraints in the circulation of traffic on the access roads to the Aerodrome of Portimão.
