The Câmara de Lagos will hire cleaning and maintenance services for bathing areas in the municipality. The objective is “to maintain the environmental quality standards of the beaches of Lagos, which have been publicly recognized by various entities with responsibilities in this area”.
The decision to open a public tender for the acquisition of these services was taken at the last Chamber meeting. The tender provides for the acquisition of services for a period of two years, with the lacobrigense municipality willing to invest 325 thousand euros.
The company with which a contract is signed will have to guarantee the maintenance of the twelve bathing areas located along the coast, including the cleaning of the sand, accesses, parking areas and surrounding areas.
"Given that the region's good weather conditions allow for use of the beaches even outside the official bathing season, the municipality noted that cleaning will be carried out throughout the year, with greater attention being planned during high season (1 of May to 31st of October), with the obligation to do this on a daily basis», advances the Câmara de Lagos.
In April, when the contract starts, inspections and special cleaning interventions will be carried out, with a view to preparing the bathing season.
The Câmara de Lagos emphasizes that this «investment and effort are not new, as evidenced by the achievement of several awards attributed to the beaches of Lagos, which add up to six blue flags, four “Accessible Beaches” flags, four “Gold Quality” flags and all the coastal zone considered as “Quality Coast”».
The municipality hopes to “manage to maintain and, in some aspects, improve its cleaning performance, in order to minimize the environmental impact of the large influx of tourists who flock to Lagos to enjoy what is the main attraction and tourist product of the municipality and the region".
