VRSA Tuna Confraternity organizes Chapter VII

The events count with the collaboration of the Chamber of VRSA and the Parish Council of VRSA.

This Saturday, the 29th of February, at 10:00 am, the Confraria do Tuna of Vila Real de Santo António will hold its VII Chapter with the enthronement of new members.

The welcome ceremony takes place in the Main Hall of the VRSA Town Hall.

Before the Chapter events, the meeting includes two public moments: a reception at the António Rosa Mendes Municipal Historical Archive, at 9:00 am, as well as a parade of invited brotherhoods through the streets of the Historic Center of VRSA, from 9:40 am.

The procession will reveal the strong yellow and blue tones of the costumes of the Vilarreal brotherhood, colors that evoke the traditional uniforms of the workers of the many canning factories that existed in the city of Guadiana.

This year, more than 50 national and international confraternities are expected to attend the event, a significant number in the context of the Algarve and which marks the growth and relevance of the Vila-Real confraternity.

The initiative also includes a Meeting of the Algarve Confraternity with the Portuguese Federation of Gastronomic Confraternity, this Friday, February 28, from 17:30 pm, at the Vicente Campinas Municipal Library, an initiative that also includes the participation of the Hotel School and VRSA Tourism.

The Confraria do Atum's mission is to take the history of tuna and the canning industry further, episodes that marked generations in VRSA and are still present today in many of the city's typical dishes or in the eating habits of villagers.

One of the main objectives of the current direction of the Confraternity is to expand its national and international scope, increasing cooperation between the border locations of Portugal and Spain.

The events count with the collaboration of the Chamber of VRSA and the Parish Council of VRSA.
