camera of Faro gives schools more skills and a million euros

Money will be distributed among the five groupings of Faro and it will even reach one of Olhão

The Chamber of Faro will give around one million euros to school groups in the municipality, under a protocol for transferring skills and resources to schools.

This measure "represents a considerable effort to provide the municipality's schools with financial autonomy and the capacity to act to develop their work", believes the Chamber of Faro.

The Pinheiro e Rosa Group receives the largest share, worth 347 thousand euros. This is followed by the groups João de Deus (284 thousand euros), Tomás Cabreira (184,3 thousand euros), from Montenegro (111,4 thousand euros), D. Afonso III (103,5 thousand euros) and Dr. Alberto Iria , from Olhão (2374 euros, related to the management of the Culatra school).

With the approval of this protocol, «the City Council seeks to strengthen the autonomy of the groups' directions, putting into practice an integrated strategy for local management of the school park to respond to the needs of educational establishments».

«In addition to the planned transfers of skills and resources, the municipality continues to offer school manuals and teaching materials to the most needy, without forgetting breakfast, lunch and transport, which the City Council of Faro will continue to provide free of charge to those in need», added the municipality.

The Chamber of Faro he stressed that it was "readily" willing to accept the new competences decentralized by the Ministry of Education in the municipalities, "which implied having 102 workers in its ranks".

This year, the Chamber took over «the management at the level of EB 2,3 and also of secondary schools with regard to non-teaching staff, water, electricity, communications, maintenance, fuels, Curriculum Enrichment Activities and others».

The protocol that was approved represents «a considerable investment, but with almost immediate consequences in the improvement of the conditions of our school park and, consequently, in a more complete preparation of the students of our municipality», according to Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro.

“A significant part of the success of our educational project lies precisely in the capacity to delegate competences and responsibilities, accompanied by adequate financial allocation, in the respective groups, in an atmosphere of great dialogue and understanding”, he concluded.
