The former Unicer brewery, in the Industrial Zone of Loulé, will be transformed into cinema and audiovisual studios, in an investment of 60 million euros made by two British entities.

The objective, explains the Loulé Council, is to create a «complex that sees itself as a national, European, and even world reference, in attracting important productions in the entertainment industry area».

This is a project developed in partnership by MovieBox and Landsdowne Capital Partners, and which has been monitored, step by step, for the last 18 months, by the Municipality of Loulé, through the Loulé Film Office.

The project will be installed on the site where the former Unicer factory operated, near the Industrial Zone of Loulé, and will include cinema and television studios, a platform for streaming which will develop new content, and will also serve as the “home” for many independent producers so that, from here, they can promote their work around the world.

This factory, which closed in 2008, was responsible for 7% of Unicer's beer production.

«This is a project on a global scale that will place Loulé on the path of major cinematographic and television productions and, as such, we were, from the beginning, on the side of investors. We believe that the creation of this complex will be a decisive and turning point in the diversification and dynamization of the region's economy, in line with ongoing projects in other areas and which have our municipality as a stage, as is the case of ABC Loulé Active Life Health and Research, when it comes to health, or the Cultural Quarter, in the area of culture», says Vítor Aleixo.

On the other hand, the mayor of Loulé highlights the jobs generated with this investment.

“There are at least 300 new direct jobs created, in addition to the thousands that will indirectly be created in the medium term. This is one of the components of the project that makes us most satisfied, as there will be many people from Loulé who will immediately benefit from the project», stresses Vìtor Aleixo.

«Therefore, all the conditions are in place for Loulé to strengthen its role as a catalyst for investment, a booster of the regional economy and a pioneer in the national context in yet another area based on the creative and entertainment industries», concludes the mayor.
