The construction work of a walkway at Praia de Altura will begin, after the contract was signed this Tuesday, 28 January.
The structure will be between Praia da Verdelago (Altura) and Praia da Lota (Manta Rota), with a bridge crossing the Álamo stream.
«It will be a walkway measuring about 1500 meters, with a width of 3 meters, which will wind through the dune system, but embracing the beach support framing the seafront and with areas for rest and lighting. In a second phase, this same walkway will connect with Praia de Monte Gordo», explains the Chamber of Castro Marim.
"The elevation of this infrastructure promotes the reduction of coastal erosion, blocks the action of man on the protection zones, encourages the stabilization of sand for the formation of dunes and allows the installation of natural vegetation, thus restoring the dynamics of the dune habitat", adds.
This intervention also involves the reconstruction of four accesses to the beach, which already exist, and the construction of a new one, with a total investment estimated at around 936 euros.
There is also a necessary articulation with the new beach supports, which are the responsibility of the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA)
This project was carried out under the guidance of the Portuguese Environment Agency and in accordance with the sedimentary dynamics of the respective dune cord.
The works have co-financing of 75%, under the scope of POSEUR (Operational Program for Sustainability and Efficiency in the Use of Resources) and Portugal 2020
. The national counterpart and ineligible expenditure are reimbursed under the EIB loan, which is also co-financed by Community funds.
