UAlg coordinates the alliance of universities that will “expand” it to six countries

Universidade do Algarve to lead consortium that brings together six other universities in Europe

The University of Algarve will coordinate a European alliance of universities that will allow students from the seven institutions involved to «obtain an academic degree through the combination of studies carried out in several European countries».

This network, which arises within the scope of the Erasmus+ program “European Universities” initiative, will be formalized on Friday, the 10th, at 12:00 pm, in the seminar room of the Rectory of the UAlg Campus of Gambelas, in Faro.

In addition to the Algarve academy, the universities of Huelva (Spain), Lahti (Finland), Ludwigshafen (Germany), Timisoara (Romania), Tomas Bata (Czech Republic) and Tuscia (Italy) will be part of this network.

«Created at the initiative of the universities themselves, the “European Universities” aim to establish networks across the European Union, allowing students to obtain an academic degree through the combination of studies carried out in several European countries, thus contributing to the international competitiveness of universities themselves,” explained the Algarve university.

The consortium that will be led by UAlg, entitled “Sustainability Horizon Alliance“, aims to «create transversal sustainability horizons, whether environmental, social or economic. It intends to have a strong impact in the regions where it operates, through distance learning, entrepreneurship and innovation, and to create strategic bridges with Africa, South America and Asia».

According to Alexandra Teodósio, vice-rector of UAlg, the aim is to “propose a new typology of European degrees, recognized among the universities in the consortium, which will reduce barriers to the recognition of degrees in each country”.

The signature at UAlg will be attended by the rector of the University of Huelva, the rector of the Tomas Bata University, the rector of the University of Lahti and representatives from Tuscia, Timisoara and Ludwigshafen universities.
