Municipalities request audit of ALGAR accounts

António Pina gave the Sul Informação the first in-depth interview since taking office as AMAL president

The Algarve Intermunicipal Community (AMAL) will request an audit of ALGAR's accounts in order to have a "third opinion" in relation to the figures presented by the administration of the company responsible for the collection and recovery of waste in the Algarve councils, whose share capital is now mostly private.

The announcement was made exclusively to Sul Informação by António Miguel Pina, the new president of the Algarve Intermunicipal Community, in the first in-depth interview he has given since he took office as the highest director of AMAL.

The mayor justifies the audit with the "risk of system failure" that the mayors consider to exist and admits that this may be a first step towards the rescue of the concession by the 16 municipalities, which are at the same time partners and customers from the company.

Watch the first part of this video interview here, where António Pina reveals the municipalities' plans for the waste area.
