The village of Ameixial will be greener with the new trees that will be planted there on Saturday, January 18, during a reforestation action that will be promoted in this mountain village in the municipality of Loulé by Cooperativa QRER, organizer of the Walking Festival of Ameixial .
This activity aims to “enrich the village's forest cover, enhance its attractiveness and contribute to the environmental and landscape improvement of the village” and is open to all who wish to participate.
Interested parties should register on the QRER website. The activity starts at 9:30 am next to the Café Central and continues until 12:30 pm. There follows a lunch, in which it is necessary to reserve a place in advance.
This is the third time that the organizers of the WFA promote a forestry action, financed by the money of the festival registration. In 2017, more than 450 cork oaks, holm oaks and strawberry trees were planted near the town of Vermelhos, in the parish of Ameixial, with the help of around 45 volunteers.
In the 2018 edition, the revenue from registrations reverted to a reforestation action in Pampilhosa da Serra, one of the places affected by the great fires of 2017 and where a hiking festival is also held.
Now, it will be the turn of the village of Ameixial itself to have new trees.
This is just one of the many actions in favor of the community that the organizers of the Ameixial Walking Festival promoted in this parish.
In 2018, intervention was carried out in fountains, «cashing and restoring damaged parts of them. In 2019, during the festival, one of the last haystacks was recovered existing circular roads in the region, which can now be visited in Corte D'Ouro”, according to the QRER.
"In addition, the organization over these 8 years has sought to promote Southwest Writing through interventions and artistic installations, as well as exhibitions dedicated to the theme", he adds.
This action is promoted by QRER and has the support of cooperating companies Proactivetur and ALA – Algarve Landscape Architects, Parish Council of Ameixial, ICNF, Association of Producers of Serra do Caldeirão and IVV.
The Walking Festival Ameixial returns in April, on the 24th, 25th and 26th of April, «with a program once again full of activities and entertainment, not forgetting the close contact with the community, tastings of local cuisine and a strong component of discovery territory in the sense of its dissemination and promotion'.
