Bad luck for the Algarve

Farense lost 0-3 against Benfica B, in a game of the 15th round of the II Football League, played this Sunday, January 5th. The Algarvians played well, threw two balls at the bar, but ended up defeated.

The team of Faro I couldn't have imagined a worse entry into play. In the first play, Benfica B soon reached the advantage. Gonçalo Ramos received a ball inside the area and shot hard, with the ball still hitting a defender before entering. It was 0-1 and there was still not a minute of play.

Farense was forced to go after the result. The Algarvians showed a greater attacking bent, exploiting a lot the balls in the back of the opposing defense.

In the 20th minute, after a corner, Cássio Scheid headed strong, but the ball went to the crossbar, in what was a great opportunity to tie the match.

Three minutes later, Gonçalo Ramos further increased Benfica B's lead, in a quick counterattack. Daniel dos Anjos dodged an opponent, inside the area, and crossed for the Benfica striker who put the shot in, with no chance for Hugo Marques. Black life for the Algarve…

Ryan Gauld (one of the best on the field for Farense) could have reduced in the 33rd minute, but Svilar made a great save, in the angle, after the Scot had shot on half a lap. The result at half-time was, moreover, very penalizing for the Algarve, taking into account what they did during the first half.

In the second half, which started at a frenetic pace, Farense returned to the bar. Fabricio, with his heel, made a remarkable technical gesture, but the ball hit Svilar's goalpost (54′).

In the 61st minute, the Algarve even scored, through David Sualehe, but the move was disallowed for offside. By this time, Farense was looking for a goal that, in truth, was already justified.

Time went by without the Algarvians managing to score – and so it went until the end. Benfica B showed all their effectiveness and made the third. Rodrigo Conceição (son of Sérgio Conceição) took advantage of a cross by Nuno Tavares to deliver the final ax in the match (84′).

The team of Faro well tried, but ended up thrashing (0-3).

The Algarve, who have 33 points, could drop to 2nd place if Nacional beat Académico de Viseu. What is certain is that Farense has 7 points ahead of the 3rd ranked: Mafra.
