This award is intended to honor Joaquim Romero Magalhães, the distinguished professor and natural historian of Loulé, who died in December 2018, and author of «a remarkable historical work, promoter and disseminator of the historical documentation of the Municipal Archive of Loulé».

On the other hand, it is part of the programming of this Archive and is part of the activities of the Al-'Ulyà magazine, a periodical research publication of interdisciplinary scientific and cultural dissemination, owned by the Municipality of Loulé.

«Designed for a segment of the specialized public, it has the particularity of attracting readers with a common interest in the study and knowledge of social sciences, the humanities and the historical and cultural heritage», says Câmara de Loulé.

«Over the last two decades, Al-'Ulyà has allowed the systematic and rigorous recording and dissemination of research in the field of archaeology, local history, architectural, ethnographic and cultural heritage, decisively changing the way of facing issues of historical and cultural heritage which, by their own merit, came to occupy a strategic place in the development of the municipality», he concludes.
