Cycle of workshops help to create an Innovation Ecosystem in the Algarve

Second workshop took place in Faro

The Algarve STP Association (Systems and Technology Partnership) and the University of Algarve are organizing, within the scope of the Algarve Tech Hub, a series of workshops aimed at strengthening the Algarve's Innovation Ecosystem. These workshops are aimed at training companies based in the region and boosting the ecosystem oriented towards the creation of a cluster.

After a first workshop organized in Loulé, in November, dedicated to “Capital for growth” and promoted by the venture capital firm Indico Capital Partners, Algarve STP recently organized a second workshop, in Faro.

The second workshop, under the theme “Intelligent Technological Systems – Artificial Intelligence”, took place at the University of Algarve (Campus da Penha). This workshop was hosted by Fraunhofer Portugal, a company headquartered in Portugal and dedicated to scientific research, combining it with business projects.

This second workshop, which took place this Thursday, January 23, was organized in two parallel sessions: one for technicians and one for managers. In both there was the participation of students from the University.

According to Algarve STP, «the interest generated exclusively through dissemination allowed us to reach a maximum number of entries. Planned for 40 participants, demand was high. It was possible to create conditions to increase the audience to 60 people. And in the end, given the interest aroused, we managed to expand the number of participants to more than 70 presences».

The association emphasizes that «the participating public was mainly from business, showing the lively interest that exists in companies for this type of initiative. It also reveals the openness to innovation and contact with new experiences, admitting that the new knowledge acquired can change and reformulate the productive processes of companies from various sectors that were present».

The various sessions, both practical and theoretical, «aroused a high level of interest among those present, a situation that was assessed through a final satisfaction survey launched among the participants», adds Algarve STP.

The event was also held in English and the session was attended by some foreign elements, belonging to the foreign community residing in the Algarve.

For João Guerreiro, president of the Algarve STP board, «this type of event allows for the promotion of a policy that contributes to the creation of an Innovation Ecosystem in the Algarve. The success registered so far by the workshops shows that companies in the region are open to regional initiatives, of a transversal nature, which allow the region to position itself in a training framework for a smart region. The Algarve ASTP will soon organize other similar events, which should contribute to reinforce the creation of an Innovation Ecosystem in the Algarve region».

The workshop on 23 January was organized under the KCITAR project, funded by the CRESC Algarve programme.
