The Municipality of Albufeira opened a tender, in December, for the contract to build a new block of classrooms and various improvements to the Diamantina Negrão 2nd and 3rd cycle Basic School. The first phase of the contract involves an investment of 1,2 million euros, with the total work amounting to more than 2 million. The second phase will be launched in May.

These works consist of the construction of a new building for laboratory classes, alteration and expansion of the school canteen, alteration and expansion of the sports pavilion and also the creation of an outdoor field for basketball practice. Alongside these works, there is also the replacement of roofs.

After the award date, the contract has a completion period of nine months.

Also within the scope of the school park, the Municipality of Albufeira will open another tender, referring to the contract for the construction of a new ATL Room and storage at EB1-Fontainhas, as well as some conservation work on existing buildings, such as exterior painting and waterproofing of the flat roof. The contract in question has an estimated cost of 156.097,06 euros.

According to the president José Carlos Rolo, “several actions are being carried out with a view to having a school park with excellent conditions” and for that purpose there are several competitions taking place.

The lack of spaces, especially for children in kindergartens, will be addressed through the expansion of buildings, namely the kindergartens in Ferreiras, Caliços, Correeira and Vale Rabelho, which will be more dimensioned and with better conditions already in the the next school year and the following year, adds the municipality, in a press release.
