Algarve teachers «say no to the municipalization of education»

Motion against the decentralization of competences in the area of education was approved in plenary sessions with teachers from the region

Algarve teachers “say no to the municipalization of education”. This is guaranteed by the Union of Teachers of the South Zone (SPZS), which held several plenary sessions on the decentralization of competences with teachers from the district of Faro.

«The SPZS/FENPROF considers that this process, if not reversed, will jeopardize rights such as equal opportunities, will lead to the accentuation of asymmetries, will reduce the autonomy of schools, opening doors to interference in their internal organization and will enhance ways of privatization of the Public School», consider the union members.

The educators and teachers present at the plenary sessions approved a motion “which appeals to the Municipal Chambers and Assemblies of the district of Faro who affirm their opposition to the process provided for in Decree-Law 21/2019, before or after 2021».

In the same motion, the professors appealed to the political parties to "promote initiatives with a view to reversing the ongoing municipalization process" in the Assembly of the Republic.
