Rodrigo Leão, Môce dum Cabreste, Salvador Sobral and even “Monologos da Vagina”. These are some of the highlights of the cultural program for the first quarter of 2020 for Lagos. 

Among the traditional Carnival of Odiáxere, concerts, festivals, dance performances, theater, humor, workshops and activities for the little ones, the city will have the presence of artists such as Rodrigo Leão, Salvador Sobral, Môce dum Cabreste, Pedro Teixeira da Mota , Eduardo Madeira, Manuel Marques, António Calvário and Natalina José.

It will be at the Centro Cultural de Lagos that the municipality will have the strongest bets in terms of shows. On January 4th (19 pm and 00:21 pm), Rodrigo Leão takes the stage for two concerts evocative of his new work, “O Method”, with the participation of the children's choir of Grupo Coral de Lagos.

Aiming to raise awareness of the environment and climate change, the Associação Dança Ibérica will bring the dance show “Não Há Planeta B” on the 17th (20:00). On the 24th and 25th of the same month (21:30 pm), as part of the commemoration of the elevation of Lagos to the City, Salvador Sobral returns to present his second studio album, “Paris | Lisbon”, strong presence in national and international tops.

Humor will be king on the winter nights of the same space, with the second solo of stand up comedy “Vou Fica” by Dário Guerreiro, the well-known Môce dum Cabreste (February 1, 21 pm), the presence of the young comedian Pedro Teixeira da Mota with the show that has sold out theaters across the country, “Caramel Macchiato” (February 30 at 21:19 pm and 30 pm), and the presentation of the “Neverending Tour” by Eduardo Madeira and Manuel Marques (March 22, 00:6 pm).

There will also be the return of three festivals to Lagos.

Entrelaçados – Contemporary Dance Festival, now in its 4th edition, welcomes, from February 9th to 16th, dancers, creators and companies to celebrate artistic expression in its various aspects and fill the city with movement.

To exalt Afro-Arab music, Muhammad el Bouzidi (Morocco), Wafir Sheikheldin (Sudan) and Aboubakar Syla (Guinea Conakry) present the 15th Music Festival “Al-Mutamid – Muhsilwan” on February 21 (30HXNUMX).

The 2nd edition of Ventania – Barlavento Performing Arts Festival brings to Lagos the show “Clean Water Act” (March 20, 21:30), with the artistic coordination of choreographer Jenny Jacobson, and with the intention of making people reflect on the impact of growth of the community on the water around us.

In terms of theatre, the Algarve poet António Aleixo will be remembered on 22 February (21:30 pm) with the Rede Azul project “Diz-me António”, bringing together dance, music and spoken word.

On March 14, the stars António Calvário and Natalina José return to the stage with the Revista à Portuguesa “Volta Portugal em Revista” (21h30) for moments of humor and evocative music of this traditionally Portuguese genre.

To mark World Theater Day on March 27, Carla Andrino, Vera Kolodzig and Júlia Pinheiro were invited to tell fun, raw and real stories that unveil a little more of the disconcerting female universe in the play “Monólogos da Vagina” (21:30 pm).

The Municipal Library of Lagos will also have some very warm winter months with a vast program that appeals to children and adults alike.

Ana Teresa Cruz starts in 2020 two new cycles of sessions “Plays with Music and Movement for babies” (January 4th, February 15th and March 21st) and “Music and creative traditional dance in the family” (January 11th, 22nd February and March 28). Also for the little ones, Joana Espiñal resumes her “Nights at the Library” around books and stories on February 1st and March 7th.

To encourage the promotion of happiness and well-being in Lagos, the Library proposes three important activities, in this case, the cycle of lectures “Life is beautiful”, by Sofia Loureiro (4th January, 22nd February and 21st March), the Yoga do Riso Workshop with Ana Banana to celebrate the World Laughter Day on January 18th and the new “Cycle of Meditations and Relaxation in the Library II” with Sandra Marreiros (January 19th, February 15th and February 22nd March).

Poesia will also be highlighted with the presence of actor Pedro Lamares on January 11 for the 2nd edition of Oficina de Palavras, the presentation of the CD “Poesia 21” by the Experiment'Arte group in the new space of the Leiturália project at Adega Almadraque at 20 March (21:30), the poetry recital of Ruy Belo “A day not too far not too close” by actors Guilherme Gomes and Sofia Moura on March 21 (21:30), in celebration of World Poetry Day, and the presentation of bestseller “Sophia”, by Isabel Nery, the first biography of Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, in honor of the centenary of her birth, on March 28 (21:30 pm).

During the month of celebration, the traditional Carnival of Odiáxere will take place from the 23rd to the 25th of February, promoted by the Clube Desportivo de Odiáxere, with the usual floats, masks, humour, social criticism and food and drink that cheer the entire municipality.
