45 people had to be evacuated from a seven-story building on the night of Thursday, December 26, at Urbanização Vila Rosa, in Portimão, due to a fire in a car parked in front of the building.

The alert was given at 21:53 pm. Upon seeing the smoke, the inhabitants of the building thought it would be a fire in one of the apartments.

“The projected smoke caused people to trigger the alert for a fire in a dwelling. But, after all, it was in a light passenger vehicle», explained Richard Marques, commander of the Fire Department of Portimão, to the Sul Informação.

Even so, 45 residents were evacuated due to heavy smoke.

“It's a normal procedure, done as a precaution. People only returned to their homes, around 22:30, when we ensured that all security conditions were met,” he said.

Although the fire was extinguished in «eight minutes», the situation still scared the residents of that area and caused alarm on social networks.

There were 18 operational workers at the site, supported by eight vehicles, from the Fire and PSP.
