Faro unveiled a program that gives free medication to underprivileged elderly

Faro last Tuesday, December 3rd, it released the “Medication Card” initiative, which allows elderly people with less economic resources to have free medicine in Montenegro.

One of the partners is the Elderly Support Office of the Municipality of Faro, which was represented by its technical responsible, Paula Paiva, having presented the “Programa Abem: Solidary Medicine Network”.

This is a program that results from a protocol between the municipality of Faro and the IPSS Dignitude and allows all residents of Faro, who are in a situation of economic need, can have medicines free of charge.

At this time 86 citizens have been supported with this measure, but by the end of the year the value will rise to 100. Given the success of the measure, the City Council decided to increase the number of citizens covered by this program from 100 to 250, which implies a increase in investment from 10 to 25 thousand euros per year until 2021.

This third action, entitled "The importance of complying with medication" is part of a cycle of six events promoted under the "Half Dozen Conversations" Project, promoted by an informal group of nurses specialized in Community Nursing from the Health Centers Group (ACeS) Central of ARS Algarve, with the objective of increasing proximity social participation, health literacy and active and healthy aging of the older population of Montenegro.
