The Algarve Football Association's Referee Council will hold courses for new football and futsal referees as of January. Registration is open until December 15th.
The regulation can be consulted on the website of Algarve Football Association (AFA), the registration form can also be downloaded, which should be sent to [email protected].
During the registration period, the AFA is promoting "a set of actions to promote arbitration at schools, universities and clubs, in order to attract new referees to join the staff" of the body.
This Wednesday, the 4th, the Library of the Poeta António Aleixo Secondary School, in Portimão, was the first to receive an awareness-raising action. The next one will take place that will go to the Secondary School of Vila Real de Santo António on the next 10th, at 14 pm.
According to Sérgio Piscarreta, president of the Arbitration Council, «the objective is to take the largest arbitration course that has ever been done in the Algarve, extending it to at least three areas of the region – Portimão, Faro and Vila Real de Santo António».
«Being a referee is an example of overcoming difficulties and a privilege for any football and futsal lover. Today, arbitration, in addition to offering a very interesting career opportunity, transmits a set of essential values for any young person. It is a school that leaves no one indifferent. Anyone who enters the arbitration can hardly get out», adds the official.
Sérgio Piscarreta strongly recommends “any young person who likes football or futsal to take the course and try out being a referee”.
The courses will last for two months, with a total of 40 hours of theoretical and practical classes, which end in the first stage of candidate referees conducted by the Football Association of the Algarve.
In the end, the referees who are able will be prepared to referee in the Algarve championships and with the possibility of later ascending to the national championships.
