Foreign journalists specializing in wine visited Algarve producers

Michael A. Schaefer, from the United States of America (USA), and Barbara Repovš, from Slovenia visited six producers in the region

Two wine journalists, belonging to the International Federation of Journalists and Writers of Wines and Spirits (FIJEV) visited the Algarve wines between the 8th and 11th of October.

Michael A. Schaefer, from the United States of America (USA), and Barbara Repovš, from Slovenia, contacted several producers, tasted their wines and learned about the stories behind them.

In all, six farms were visited. On the 9th, the producer Morgado do Quintão was visited, «one of the most recent in our region and with a strong focus on typical Algarve grape varieties – Negra Mole and Crato Branco», according to the Algarve Wine Commission (CVA), which organized it the visit, and Adega do Cantor.

The following day, other recent producers were visited, Quinta dos Sentidos and Quinta dos Santos, as well as an already well-known one, Quinta dos Vales.

On the 11th, the two journalists visited Quinta Rosa, a producer of organic wine «produced with very old techniques, which takes up the traditional style of wine production of our ancestors».

On the other hand, the American journalist made the presentation “How to sell wines in the USA”, clarified doubts about the market and prices of wines in the USA and gave “some recommendations on how to find the right importers and distributors partners”, according to the Wine Commission from the Algarve, who organized the visit.

Michael A. Schaefer is a wine trainer, holding the High Level Certificate from the WSET – Wine & Spirit Education Trust, and participating in the most prestigious wine competitions throughout the United States and Europe.

Barbara Repovš, works as a journalist, mostly for Italian magazines. He occasionally works as a freelancer for Dolce Vita and Revija Vino.
